About the Garden

Background

CU-Garden is a registered non-profit organization of college students that believes that every child and their family should have access to fresh, healthy, and organic food. We provide this access by constructing educational and community gardens that are integrated into elementary school classes and open to the public to rent. Currently, our first garden is located at Douglass Park in Champaign.

How can I support CU-Garden?

Donations:

Fundraising:

CU-Garden has many expenses (building materials, tools, seeds, compost, etc.) that are currently only covered by our original grant. Donations can help fuel the growth of the garden and ensure its expansion to other local schools. If you or your organization would like to make a donation, contact our Director, Steve Heiss at steve@cu-garden.com.

Sponsor a Garden Plot:

Help sponsor a garden plot for a family that can't afford one. If you or your organization would like to sponsor a garden plot, contact our Director, Steve Heiss at steve@cu-garden.com.

In-Kind:

CU-Garden relies on the skilled labor of community members to help realize our mission. If you or your organization are able to provide in-kind donations (legal advice, carpentry, landscaping, etc.) please contact our Director, Steve Heiss at steve@cu-garden.com.

Volunteering:

Become a community sponsor:

CU-Garden wants to be a part of the fabric of the communities we serve. If you want to become an active member of CU-Garden to ensure we are integrated into your neighborhood, please contact our Director, Steve Heiss at steve@cu-garden.com.

Workdays:

We always need volunteers to help water, weed, and perform general maintenance on the garden. Click HERE to look for scheduled work days. Or e-mail contact@cu-garden.com to schedule a work day for your organization!
